4 Tips for Cleaning Your Own Windows

What is your secret for getting the windows so clean?

We’re often asked this question, and people are often disappointed with our answer: soap, water, and a squeegee. There’s no secret chemical, solution, or ratio that makes for the perfectly clean windows, it’s simply the skills we use with regular window cleaning tools.

So how can you use these tools to get your windows crystal clear? While there are a lot of techniques professional window cleaners use, there are a few easy things you can do.

1. Use plenty of clean water when scrubbing your window with a brush or scrub bar. It’s going to be difficult to leave no marks with the squeegee when the water is dirty to begin with.

2. Use a clean squeegee. Make sure you wipe it off after lifting it off the glass so dirt stuck to it doesn’t get trapped between the rubber and the glass leaving those awful streaks.

3. Go from side to side instead of top to bottom. This will help prevent the drip downs and squeegee marks.

4. Use a paper towel or microfiber cloth to wipe the edges of the window. While we get lucky sometimes, not having to wipe the sides, most professionals wipe the edges and bottoms of the glass so they are completely clean and drip free.

Following those four steps should help you keep the windows most important to you clean between professional cleanings.
